WESTON Wheelers' Steve Chmiewliski overcame difficult conditions to finish in the top half of a punishing 45km test of attrition on Salisbury Plain. He braved tough wintery conditions, comprising strong wind and heavy downpours on already sodden ground to take 139th place from the 382 starters."The course had been somewhat drenched with all the rain that had hit the area during the week making all the areas tricky and difficult," said Steve.Starters were greeted with a heavy downpour and a third of the way into the event the course was showing its true colours.Ploughing through a completely flat grass field and despite the benefit of a tail-wind, Chmiewliski's speed nosedived to around 7mph."The last four or five miles were the most productive as I was able to build up a good pace to the finish with the course being slightly more sheltered."Gasping for air and desperate for food after his stamina-sapping trek, the Weston Wheeler crossed the chequered flag in a creditable 3hrs 15mins 10secs.
