WITH several of the usual racers taking a break, Steve Chmiewliski was the only Wheeler competing in this years Pittards Trophy road race.Over the 45-mile course around Yeovilton, several riders tried to break free including Steve on a number of occasions, but the main bunch were determined to keep the race together. On the final lap there were two crashes and you could feel the tension building in the peloton. On the last corner leading on to the start/finish straight, Steve tucked in behind Pete Johnston from Team Tor and managed to hold on to third place in the sprint. With that result Steve has accumulated enough points to move up to 3rd category.Peter Rogers was the sole Wheeler in the Severn RC WTTA hardriders 23 on the U87 course (Marshfield). Despite feeling distinctly flat, the course wasn't and although it turned out to be very good morning, Peter just about got round in one piece.Peter said: "At least I didn't finish last and it was an improvement over what I did two years ago in the Bath CC hardriders' over a very similar distance. I wouldn't care to face the leg from Acton Turville to Tormarton into the teeth of a stiff westerly as it is quite exposed".
