Strawberries and a cream tea is on offer at Winscombe to try and tempt newcomers to have a game of bowls.

HAVE you ever considered playing bowls? If so, now is your chance to try it and also enjoy a superb strawberry cream tea.

Winscombe Bowling Club is holding an open day on July 19 between 2-5pm. The club is on Sandford Road, opposite the Community Centre. Contrary to popular belief, bowling is a sport which attracts both young and old, with mixed genders playing with equal abilities at a competitive level or just for fun.

Winscombe boasts one of the finest greens in the county with experienced coaches able to assist any beginner to reach a high standard of playing. So come along and give it a go.

It will be a chance to meet other bowlers who will be more than happy to explain the game and assist with instruction so that you can try for yourself.

Age is no obstacle and Winscombe can report they have a 17-year-old who plays for the Somerset Under-25s team. So dad, bring your son along to have a go.

If you cannot make the day, contact club captain Paul Fredersdorff on 01934 822240, who can arrange for free coaching on an alternative day.
