WESTON continued their winning ways with a comprehensive win over UWIC at Hutton Moor.

The first quarter started off closer than Weston had anticipated and UWIC showed some good play. Weston had S Coles excluded half way through the opening quarter and had to work hard to cover, but ended the first period 3-1 up, goals coming from captain Vincent and two for Liam Coles.

UWIC started the second stronger and scored three to Weston's two, which both came from quick breaks by Forbes to take the score to 5-4 to Weston.

At half time, Vincent, coach Coles and Etchells had some stern yet motivational words to the team. This worked and Weston started playing their game, which is quick counter attacking polo. Weston were dominant and UWIC found it hard to get the ball. Weston scored four goals in this quarter coming from K Maloney, M Morgan and two for Vincent.

Going into the final quarter Weston pulled away to 9-6 and were playing with confidence and guile. Weston's fitness started to show and four more goals were scored to UWICs one. N Edwards (2) and Maloney (2) scored some good goals and are showing confidence in all aspects of the game.

This lead allowed Coles to give some of the younger team members a chance and they did not disappoint, Gahame was quick and showed confidence and Pople was solid.

There were many fine performances in the game, Watkins was solid in goal and made some fine saves and distributed the ball quickly, Vincent was strong up front, Rhian had his best game of the season to date and was solid in defence, as was Etchells and Farrance which was the platform of Weston's win. The man of the match sponsored by the Woolpack went to G Forbes.

Weston's next league game is on May 6 v Team Bath at 8.30pm at Hutton Moor. The junior section and the senior side will be attending a tournament in Newton Abbot on May 1. Please meet at the Woolpack at 8.30am.
