Successful grading event

Avenue Tennis Club held a successful junior grading event at its courts in Burnham.
AVENUE Tennis Club in Burnham hosted its 94th Junior LTA Grade 3 tennis tournament which saw 235 entrants playing in a variety of age groups from under-8s up to under-18s.
The event sponsored by Intersport Tony Pryce and Burnham Haven Holiday Homes, was a great success with some fantastic tennis being played.
Referee and Avenue tennis coach Barry Ramsden said the level of tennis and sportsmanship was great to see. He had particular praise for Craig Barnard and all his players from Stockton Heath Tennis Club in Warrington, Cheshire.
Avenue members in the event included Megan Rundle, Joshua Chenylle Proctor, Corey Niccolls (Under-18 mixed doubles winner) and Billy May.
Pictured above are players from the Under-8 tournament which saw Theodore Purkis from Goodrich Tennis Club, Ross-on-Wye win with local player Thomas Punt, from Mark, coming second.
The club tournament committee would like to thank the sponsors Intersport Tony Pryce and Haven Burnham Holiday Villages, Barry Ramsden, Linda and Ashley Matthews, Liz and her crew of helpers in the kitchen and Anne and Dave Vennall for running the bar.
The club’s junior tennis training squads recommenced on September 3 with courses for juniors of all ages and abilties every night of the week. Adult coaching is on Thursday and Friday evenings or Saturday afternoons.

The club will be running a social doubles tournament on Saturday from 1pm, all are welcome to play. This social event will replace the normal Vinny’s minis on September 7.
