Weston Ladies 4

Mid Somerset 2

Weston Ladies played host to Mid Somerset in their second league game of the season with a new formation.

Mid Somerset took advantage of Weston finding their feet and converted a short corner early in the game. A strong restart from Desni Darch found Elsa Greed on the wing in space and her floating pass to Becky Childs was found and a foot meant Weston had their first short corner.

After a text book routine, Charlotte Gordon found the bottom corner making the score 1-1.

Weston were on a high and with great effort in midfield from Katie Elliott, Hayley Mawford and Claire Westgate allowed Nicola Yalland to play a cracking pass through for Lucy Clarke to score her first goal of the game.

The visitors were more determined than ever, but the defensive team of Kerry Westgate, Orla Crabb, Charlotte Howson and Charlotte Gordon were impenetrable.

After coming away successful from a 50/50 ball in the middle of the pitch, Claire Westgate found the back of the net for a birthday goal and Weston’s third.

After half-time, the heavens opened and Mid Somerset took advantage. After a string of great saves from Sammi Brown, the visitors netted.

In the last minutes of the game, Weston showed their superior fitness and were awarded a short corner. Another perfectly executed routine allowed Clarke to get her second and make the final score 4-2.

The Milton Larder player of the match was Nicola Yalland.

Weston travel to Clifton on Saturday and hope to continue to build on their first two strong performances.
