WITH the Summer Leagues now at an end, Nailsea LTC can look back on an overall successful season.

In North Somerset League, the men's and ladies' teams have been competing in the top divisions.

The ladies', who finished as runners-up last year, had a tough season with the first team of Lucy Linham, Lucy Emery, Gemma Butt and Katrina Rolfe all being available for only five of the 10 matches. They ended the season with five wins to claim a spot in mid-table and maintain their top flight status.

The men, having been promoted last year, began the season aiming to consolidate in Division 1. After four wins from the first five matches and in a solid second place they began to have higher aspirations. Having a regular team of Matt Rogers, James Wescott, Kevin Emery and Max Meredith for 9 of the 10, they claimed two more wins and continued to take points in all the matches to maintain their position finishing as runners-up.

The ladies' second team, playing in Division 2, won five matches to finish mid-table. The men's second team had a tougher time, winning two matches and despite defeating fellow relegation battlers Wrington in the last match of the season, it was too late and they will next season play in Division 4.

The Avon League ladies' team were in mid-table before playing the final match of the season and hope to have remained in Division 3 once all the results are in.

The juniors have also had a competitive number of months with a number taking part in Nailsea's Open Tournament as well as playing Avon Junior League matches. These opportunities have been a real positive for the club players and have no doubt further improved their tennis.

Club coach Matt Rogers said: "It's been fantastic for the juniors to get some competitive matches, it really seems to have inspired them to work hard in their training sessions, a number of them are improving very quickly, I hope to see them playing more tournaments over the summer.".

Although the Summer League is now over, the summer activities at Nailsea are still in full swing; the club tournaments are taking place and a host of different sessions will be taking place over the holidays, these include a variety of junior and adult sessions for all ages and standards, including coaching, competitions, club play and open day.

The club's Open Day will take place on Saturday, August 1, from 10:30am to 1:30pm, everyone is welcome so please call in to find out more about the club. Club coach Rogers, along with other club members, will be on hand for free tips and organising play for all who come along. With a number of different membership categories there is something to suit everyone.
