IT WAS a good start to the New Year for Division 2 Totterdown Daemons against close rivals Vets C, who had to concede defeat on 11 to Daemons’ 27.

Jason King won all his singles, having close games against Vets’ new player Gary Evry making a return to the league. Mike Summers, also three, lost a game each to Evry and Mark Treasure.

Vets’ Roger Norville did well to beat Bert Hiscock in five, depriving him of three wins. Evry and Treasure taking the doubles 3-1 against King and Summers, gaining some reward for Vets.

Vets C fared better against Totterdown Flamingos, winning a close match 18-15. Top spot went to Flamingos’ Graham Cheeseman, who came through undefeated. Trevor Williams beat Vets’ John Barcham in five and together with Cheeseman, won 3-1 against Mark Treasure and Barcham in a hard fought match.

Flamingos’ Graham Cheeseman and Nigel Andrews both won three singles against C & C Cobras. Cheeseman lost a game to Cobras’ Simon Thomas and Andrews lost games to Thomas, Rick Hutchinson and John Barker.

Cheeseman and Andrews were an unbeatable doubles team, winning 3-0 against Thomas and Barker, giving Flamingos a 21-14 win.

Daemons had a good pre-Christmas 30-7 win over Winsc Warriors. Anne Baker and Paul Millward took games from Daemons’ Mike Summers and Bert Hiscock.

In Division 1, Walton Wanderers had a decisive 9-1 victory over Winsc Rebels. Rebels were unlucky to come away with just one point after a close fought match with sets going to four and five games. Bill Bruton and Mike Harris three each, Keith Ambrose with two wins, lost to Rebels’ Mike Baker.

In a tight match between Totterdown C and Vets A, Jon Codd and Roger Crump both took three singles for Vets. Ann Sandford struggled with her singles losing all three, despite having beaten both Mark Price and Rick Cross in recent Archdale Cup matches.

Sandford got into her stride in the doubles and teamed up with Crump to beat Price and Garry Chell in three to give Vets a 7-3 match win.
