Kingfishers Netball Club enjoy a successful summer league season.

AS the summer league comes to an end, Kingfishers can reflect on another impressive performance.

It started with convincing wins against Kingfisher Chicks and Weston 4. With a bare minimum seven players for most of the season, Kings relied on Chicks stepping up and filling positions, helping them win against Yatton and Portishead Pirates 54-12.

Despite many players being out of normal positions, Kings, sponsored by Hussain’s Indian Restaurant, put in a gutsy performance against a strong Bobbies team, upsetting their rhythm and staying strong to the end pulling away to win 35-25.

The final group match was against a predictably strong Weston 2 team. Kings played well together, but could not disrupt the accurate shooting of Weston and narrowly lost.

With five wins out of six, Kings reached the semi-final against Weston 3. However, due to Wyvern pulling out of the other semi against Weston 2, Weston had ample players to choose from.

Kings’ play was awesome, with close one-to-one marking and great defending throughout. Kings were leading until the last quarter until a few tactical changes of position meant Weston stole the win.

After such a strong summer, Kings are looking forward to the winter league in their new kit. New players welcome to training at Priory School, Mondays from 8pm. For more information go to www.pitchero.com/clubs/kingfishernetballclub
