WINSCOMBE Ladies first team were prepared for a tough weekend of two matches against two teams that sat above them on the league.

On Saturday, they faced Minehead and some impressive running off the ball resulted in a 2-0 lead (Keri Willis and Kelly Clarke) for Winscombe. Minehead hit back bringing the half-time score to 2-1.

The second half saw a chance for Winscombe to add to their lead with multiple short corners. The well-rehearsed set piece was converted by Kelly Clarke. Minehead continued to counter-attack with a high forward hanging in the Winscombe goal area, who finished well after a direct ball from the midfield.

A well positioned Keri Willis put away Winscombe’s fourth and final goal. A special mention must go to player of the match Chloe Brown.

Exeter University 2

SPIRITS were high when Winscombe took on Exeter University, who arrived in numbers and youth.

Once Winscombe had settled and regained some structure, there were some great passages of play. Player of the match Sarah Holland had some fantastic runs and went into the break 3-1 up after goals from Gabriella Richardson, Holland and Chloe Brown.

The 3-1 lead was increased by another rapid counter-attack by Holland, which left Winscombe feeling safe. Exeter scored the final goal of the game making it another 4-2 win to Winscombe.
