Woodland Lawn Tennis Club is celebrating a successful close to the winter tennis season.

WOODLAND Lawn Tennis Club is celebrating a successful close to the winter tennis season.

The club has three mixed doubles teams in the North Somerset Tennis League and its first team, in Division 1, ended up top, winning the division by three points. Woodland’s second team was not to be outdone and the final match proved decisive as, again, the team won their division with a three point advantage.

The third team fought hard, but could not match the strength of Wells but, nevertheless, managed to take the runners-up spot.

Club secretary, Annie Buckingham, was delighted by the success. She said: “It’s always an added bonus to win the divisions. Our teams have turned out in all weathers to represent the club and have done magnificently.”

The juniors have also had cause for celebrating as, after three years of hard work, Dorothy Pincott became the third junior member ever to receive a special award at the club.

To qualify for the trophy, Dorothy had to complete three star charts with stars being awarded for stroke development, court attitude and effort. The older juniors have also been put through their paces as the club has entered two teams into the West Somerset League and matches have just started.
