A LOCKING teenager who had a kidney transplant in 2012 represented Great Britain in the World Transplant Games - and has won a host of gold medals.

Ellen Russ, aged 17, has been competing in the games since 2013 – eight months after the successful operation.

At this year’s British Transplant Games, held in Newcastle, she completed her swimming events in record time, beating her personal bests in all her events.

Ellen walked away with a gold medal and four silver medals.

On August 21, she then flew out to Argentina to represent Team GB in the swimming events at the World Transplant Games in Mar del Plata.

She was selected by Transplant Sport after her performance at the British games last year and has been training with Weston Swimming Club as well as attending team meets at Warwick University.

She returned on Tuesday with six gold medals in her individual swimming events and a silver in the team relay.
