THEY may be in the bottom two positions in Division 2 of the Weston and District Table Tennis league, but C & C Cobras and Winsc Warriors enjoyed a close hard fought match with Rick Hutchinson taking all his singles for Cobras in straight games, though pushed all the way by Dave Parker and Anne Baker. Parker and Baker won two contests, both defeating Simon Thomas and John Barker. Warriors' Margaret Parker was out of luck though, coming close in her set against Barker winning the second game 12-10. A hotly contested doubles went to Hutchinson and Thomas in five games against Baker and Parker. Cobras won the match 20-15.Still holding top spot in the division, Totterdown C were pitted against club mates Totterdown Flamingos. Man of the match Nigel Andrews took all three singles for Flamingos; Mark Price lost the last game 15-13 game against him and Gary Chell won one game. Rick Cross. Chell and Price were successful against Flamingos' Roger Bowden and Trevor Williams. Andrews and Graham Cheeseman were a winning partnership, taking the doubles in five from Cross and Price, but the match was Totterdown C's 21-16.In a close match, Winsc Wayfarers just lost out to Vets B 15-24; Vets holding on to their second place in Division 2. John Codd, playing well for the Vets team, secured all his singles, dropping a game each to Wayfarers' Rich Parker and Phil Yates. Simon Kneeshaw, lacking his usual good form, lost all three. A 3-1 doubles by Codd and Hermitage against Parker and Kneeshaw gave Vets the match 24-15.In Division 1, C & C Vipers fielded a strong team against the division leaders Winsc Renegades, resulting in a close match won by Vipers 6-4. Martin Cope claimed all three singles for Vipers with Gary Cattermole and Paul Hayward taking games from him. Vipers' Mike Withyman needed an extra game to defeat both Hayward and Trevor Jones. Neil Kirsopp completed the sixth point, beating Jones. In the doubles Hayward and Cattermole were the stronger pairing against Withyman and Cope, winning in three.Walton Wanderers were made to work hard against Winsc Rebels for their 8-2 victory. Bill Bruton, with three wins, lost the first two games against Dave Hunt before taking control of the set. Rebels' points came from Dave Hunt against Andy Wakefield and Rob Hansen who beat Keith Ambrose. Hansen and Steve Wilcox were unlucky to just lose out in a close five leg doubles against Bruton and Ambrose.In Group B of three Archdale Totterdown C's Mike Cross and Mark Price both on 10 won all their matches against Winsc Warriors. Gary Chell (10) beat both Anne Baker (10) and Dave Parker (12) but came unstuck against a dogged Margaret Parker (15) to lose the third 21-10. Totterdown C won 8-1.
