Zak Jones defied the wet conditions to win Brean's October Monthly Stableford on Saturday - his second Stableford win of 2021.

Many were put off by the poor weather but 14-year-old Jones excelled as he posted 43 points to win Division Three.

He enjoyed a comfortable six point winning margin from Jack Shepherd with Gordy Wheelaghan taking third on 35.

The next best score of the day behind Jones came in Division One with Adam Cox returning a very tidy 39 points scoring points on every hole.

This was one better than runner-up Pete Barton and three clear of Zak's father Steve who was placed third.

Andrew Pound secured his maiden victory in Division Two but only after a countback with Simon Baunton.

Both scored 38 points but Pound was picked up the win with his better back nine. Third place went to Mats Mattsson with 36.

The early starters certainly had the best of the weather on Sunday morning as the rain came in around mid morning and the wind speed picked up.

Three players reached the 40 point mark and not surprisingly they all came from the first two groups on the course.

Keith Sargeant topped the scorecharts with a superb score of 41 to relegate his playing partner David Jolly to second.

Jolly, however, did score the only two of the day at the second and as it was a rolled over two's pot he collected just under £80 for his efforts. He also won a back nine countback to secure second place ahead of the in form Bob Pelzer who took third after both scored 40 points.

The Breanbury Niblick Trophy will reside at Brean Golf Club for the next 12 months after the home team, led by Dave Morgan and Linda Edmondson, defeated their Worlebury counterparts on Sunday.

Each team fielded seven mixed pairs and the home team were victorious by 4.5 games to 2.5 and plans are already being made for the 2022 edition of the event which will be hosted at Worlebury.

Graham Foy won the Final of the Bill Napier Trophy on Sunday morning.

He defeated Gordy Wheelaghan in a closely fought evenly matched game on the final hole to secure the matchplay Trophy played for Division Three players.

Chris Fairchild enjoyed a successful day at Long Sutton in the Somerset Golf Union County Seniors Stableford on Friday.

He returned a score of 36 points which was placed sixth overall on the day out of over 80 competitors and this secured him first place in his age group category within the event.

Fellow Brean Member Andrew Pound also featured in the top ten overall with his 34 points.
