There was a three-way tie at the top of the Avenue Tennis Club’s Sunday social tournament.

JANE Macaulay and Ian Phillips came up winners in the Avenue Tennis Club’s Sunday social tournament after a three-way tie at the top.

With the matches tied, head coach Vinny Duddy, who ran the tournament, went to games played which then resulted in a two-way tie with Jane and Ian tying with ladies’ captain Lynn O’Dell and Heinz Schroeder with Dawn Redwood and Sam Stead ending up one game behind the other two pairs.

Jane and Ian were awarded the trophies as they had beat Lynn and Heinz in the last of the four games played.

The Avenue Tennis Club will be holding a family fun open day on March 18 and all mothers who come along will be given a free glass of wine while they watch the coaches take the kids through a few skills and games.

The club will also be holding junior tournaments on March 4 from 11am-1pm (mini red –Under-8s) and from 1pm (mini orange – eight to nine-years-olds). Details available from the club on 01278 782758.

Tickets are still available for the Avenue Tennis Club St Patrick’s night celebration on March 17 from 7.30pm. There will be live music and a Irish menu for �10 and �4 for juniors.

The club run coaching sessions for juniors every night of the week and on Saturdays for every age group and ability. Group coaching for adults takes place on Thursdays (7.15-9.15pm), Fridays (6.30-8pm) and on Saturdays (2-3.30pm) and these are available to non members.
