LOCAL well-known football official Alan Cumner has been awarded the Football Association Fifty Year Award.
This is Alan's 61st year in the game, since he first played for the Southville Secondary Modern Boys' School in 1949.
As a goalkeeper, Alan played for Exeter United, Maradons Temple Gate, Long Ashton, Bournville Rovers and East Worle over a period of 22 years. After giving up playing, Alan was a referee for the next 21 years.
Alan was elected as referees' appointments secretary of the Weston and District League, a post he held for seven years and was elected chairman of the league which he held for 26 years before becoming league president and life member.
As well as all that, Alan became a Somerset FA divisional representative and sits on the league's board of appeal and the referee's committee where he is chairman.
