WINSCOMBE teenager James Dodd started his British Masters of Motocross Championship season, with round one of the seven-round series at Culham near Abingdon.A good start in race one saw him placed in 11th early on, but a mistake caused him to slip back to 15th on lap three. He started to pick his pace up soon after this and made his way gradually back up to 11th by the midway point of the race. He was riding really well by now and set about catching the next group of riders to make it into the top 10, and he was rewarded for his efforts by making up two places in the final few laps to leave him ninth across the finish line.A not so good start in the second race left James in 17th after the first lap, but he was faster than many riders ahead and was soon moving up the standings, consistently overtaking riders. He had reached 10th position, but with just three laps to go he got caught out by a nasty bump and crashed. He restarted in 13th position but still managed to get two places back before he crossed the finish line, to end the race in 11th.His results of ninth and 11th, left him ninth overall on the day and in good shape ready to head north to Cumbria for round two on April 19.
