ANOTHER weekend means only one thing, more racing. Several Wheelers competed at the first of the First Chard Wheelers spring circuit series. Tom Hann and Steve Chmiewliski entered the fourth category race, while Mark Macgregor entered the third category event. The field for the fourth category race was around 50 riders strong. Another blustery day with a strong wind for half the course would soon whittle down the group to the strongest riders. Both Tom and Steve stirred things up a little on the second lap by starting a break away and were joined by four riders. Unfortunately, the group took a wrong turing and had to double back and were caught by the main group. Steve tried to break away from the main group again, followed by a rider from Somerset RC. They managed to stay away for just over a lap but were caught once more. The main group of riders was now down to 12 and Steve lead the sprint out for the finish but was beaten to the line by half a wheel and had to settle for second place, Tom was close behind and finished in third spot.Mark was using this race to get some extra speed training. The three category race had several people attack during the event and two riders stayed away until the finish. Mark was quite comfortably in the main group and finished in the top 20. Well done to everyone and many thanks to First Chard Wheelers for hosting the event.
