Two Weston schoolchildren recorded impressive results at the south of England zonal schools trampoline competition.

QUAYSIDE Trampoline & Gymnastics Club, based in Bridgwater, had more amazing results from two of their younger members.

Lucy Vaz and Talia Macrides travelled to Oxford to represent their individual local Weston schools, while taking part in the south of England zonal schools trampoline competition held at the White Horse Leisure Centre in Abingdon, Oxford.

Both youngsters had qualified to this second round of the National Schools Trampoline Championships, where young people from schools across the country had competed in their regions back in December for a place.

Nine-year-old Lucy, who was representing St Marks Primary School in Weston, competed two lovely routines finishing in fifth place as one of the youngest gymnasts in the Under-11 girls’ intermediate category.

At just eight-years-old, Talia, who represented St Annes Primary School in Weston, completed her two beautiful routines and was rewarded with third place and an invitation through to the prestigious schools national final, which is to be held in Birmingham on March 14.

Ex-Great Britain senior women’s trampolinist Aurora Necco, who is Talia’s mum and their team coach from Quayside said: “Both girls competed brilliantly and supported each other as they are firm friends both on and off the trampoline.

“I am obviously very proud of Talia as competing as the youngest performer and coming third against girls up to three years older than her is quite nerve wracking, but she kept her cool. We are now looking forward to going to the national finals in a few weeks time.”
