Nailsea & Backwell 7 pts

Weston United 15 pts

UNITED made hard work of victory at Nailsea & Backwell, spurning several chances to earn a bonus point.

They started well with Harry Nash and Burge going close, before a forwards drive to the line was finished off by Dave Steele. Another break by Robbie Mackay saw him to pass to winger Mike McCarthy, who outpaced his opposite number to score in the corner.

Soon after this, Weston scored their third. A solid catch and drive by the Weston pack saw Burge splinter off from the maul and attack the blindside, where Trott was able to put McCarthy away for his second.

There was not much to write about in the second half other than that the Weston defence held firm until the hour mark when Jon Filer and Ollie Caton both looked at each other while the Nailsea fly-half went through a hole to score a converted try.

With the final play of the match, Weston lost Sam Fisher to the sin bin as Nailsea were awarded a penalty, which came to nothing.
