HORNETTES Ladies continued their winning ways when they visited Dorchester for a league game and ran in 12 tries.

Unfortunately, Dorchester were only able to raise 11 players, so they played six forwards and five backs, giving Hornettes nine substitues.

From the kick-off, Hornettes were in no mood to be messed around and after a few minutes No 8 Keri Kennedy broke through the Dorchester back line to open the scoring and the first of her hat-trick, Julie Hill converted.

Next on the score sheet was prop Kristy-Lee, running in from 30 metres for the first of her two tries, Hill again converted.

The Hornettes were playing down the slope and made the most of it with some great breaks from centre and captain Tanya Carver-Cox, one of which resulted in a try. The support play and off loading was outstanding, allowing a further four tries and one conversion, making the half-time score 41-0.

Hornettes made three changes at the break and a further six during the half. Sophie Henley on at scrum-half scored out wide. It was only after the Hornettes’ defence weakened and allowed Dorchester their one and only unconverted try.

A further two tries were scored from sub Lou Watson in at centre, as she ran in both tries from 40 metres under the posts, for Sara Curtis to convert. The final try came from Kim Hixson as she raced down the wing from halfway to score under the posts, Curtis converted. The final score was 72-5 to Hornettes.

Back of the match: Tanya Carver-Cox; forward of the match: Keri Kennedy.

Hornettes next game is home to Trowbridge on January 23, kick-off 2.30pm.
