UPHILL Badminton Club’s Christy Langford and Matt Cole won this year’s revamped George Rowdon and Sid Moxon tournament.
Due to the lack of interest shown by clubs in previous years for the original team tournament (which Uphill won in 2003), it was decided to try an individual mixed tournament for the George Rowdon and Sid Moxon Cup and Plate, and also run a men’s/ladies’ doubles event alongside it.
These competitions, which were well organised by June Malborn, were played at Hengrove Leisure Centre and proved to be successful, with 32 pairs entering from 25 different clubs.
In their semi-final, Christy and Matt beat Raymond Tse and Kimberly Wong from the University of the West of England Badminton Club 21-14, 21-18 and in the final beat Jason Reading and Nicola Wall from Clevedon Feathers Badminton Club 21-12, 21-11 to bring the cup back to Uphill.
