Uphill Castle 1

Wells City Res 1

UPHILL earned a well-deserved draw against a good Wells side in this top of the table clash between the third and fourth placed teams.

Uphill started the game well with midfielders Ben Harris, Mike Deane, Jack Askins and Sam Beresford all playing well, but Wells gradually took control of the game and took the lead.

The second half was end to end with Uphill’s defenders Lewis Smith, Jack Riney, David Long and Joe Boon all defending well to keep their attacks out. Keeper Mark Rawlins pulled off two outstanding saves before Uphill equalised when Askins ran onto Beresford’s superb through ball and gave the keeper no chance.

The Old Thatched Cottage player of the match was Sam Beresford.

Portishead Town Res 3

CASTLE’S 10-match unbeaten run came to an end at the hands of Portishead.

Poor defending found Uphill two goals down early in the game. Midfielders Mike Deane, Jack Askins, Ben Harris and Sam Beresford battled to get Uphill back in the game and chances were wasted by Paul Wray and Matt Bebber, but Wray halved the deficit before the break.

Uphill dominated the second half but found the Portishead keeper in inspired form as he denied Wray and Bebber. Following a quick break, a Portishead striker gave keeper Mark Rawlins no chance to make the final score 1-3.

The Old Thatched Cottage player of the match was Mike Deane.

Nailsea Utd Res 0

UPHILL recorded a well-deserved victory over a battling Nailsea side.

Uphill started the brighter with Matt Bebber and Paul Wray looking dangerous. Midfielders Rich Lloyd, Ben Harris and Mike Deane dominated the midfield, while defenders Josh Thorne, Lewis Smith, Joe Boon and David Long played well.

Uphill took the lead when a cross by Harris was superbly headed home by Lloyd to give Uphill the half-time lead.

After the break, Uphill stand-in keeper Sam Beresford had to make two very good saves to keep Uphill in the lead and the game finished 1-0.

The Old Thatched Cottage player of the match was Rich Lloyd.

Wrington Redhill 1

Broad Plain 2

An estimated crowd of 120 watched Wrington Redhill lose 2-1 to Broad Plain in this top of the table clash.

Second-placed Broad Plain had the first chance when Sam Johnson cleared off the line, before Neal Andow went close for leaders Wrington. The visitors broke the deadlock on 34 minutes to take a first-half lead.

After the break, Neal Andow had a good chance to equalise, but his lob fell short. Broad Plain doubled their lead to take a hold on the game.

The back four of Mike Wallington, Jake Murray, Sam Johnson and Chris Holland all played well, supported by skipper Mark Andow. The home side pulled a goal back when Graham Cheeseman scored, but could not find an equaliser.

Wrington Redhill 1

Westfield 2

LEAGUE leaders Wrington entertained fifth-placed Westfield and were beaten by the away side.

Despite having the majority of possession, both teams went into the break all square, with Wrington keeper Mark Wilson making a fine save.

After the break, Wrington had chances through Graham Cheeseman and Simon Riggs. Soon after, Westfield took a two goal lead.

As the game became more frenetic, Wrington pulled a goal back in the 86th minute by Riggs after a Cheeseman flick on, but again Wrington could not find a second goal.
