Uphill Castle Under-16s kept their 100 per cent record with victory over Backwell Wanderers.

UPHILL Castle Under-16s kept up their 100 per cent against previously unbeaten Backwell Wanderers.

Backwell controlled the early stages as Uphill got off to a slow start, but soon the Uphill midfield of Cam Milkins, Cam Frost, Brad Hassells and Sam Calvert began to take control. Uphill’s defenders Josh Thorne, Harry Askins, Jamie Borrett and Will Hillman were all playing well and Backwell were limited to long-range efforts that keeper Josh Skuse dealt with comfortably.

Uphill took the lead when a good cross from Hassells was knocked back in by Calvert for Jack Edwards to score. Minutes before half-time, Uphill made the score 2-0 when Milkins scored a fine goal.

The second half began like the first with Backwell looking slightly the better side and they halved the deficit after a break.

Uphill made the score 3-1 when good work by Frost and Kyle Fowler ended with Shepherd firing the ball past the keeper. Uphill were now dominating and Edwards hit the bar.

Near the end Uphill made the score 4-1 following a good run by Edwards, the ball ran to Hassells who netted.

The Old Thatched Cottage player of the match was Kyle Fowler.

WESTON Crusaders Under-12s started the new year against a hard-working Yatton side.

After a scrappy start, a swift passing move between Joel, Reece and Ethan saw Snedds go close. Lewis made some sharp saves in goal, before James swung in a great cross for Churchill to net. Yatton equalised with a well-taken finish before getting a second from a header.

The second half saw the home team work much harder and Ethan jinked into the box winning a penalty, which he calmly slotted home. After hitting the bar and a number of near misses, Churchill stabbed home a cross from Ethan to clinch the game 3-2. The defence of Blondie, Thomas, and Ben kept Yatton at bay, with Tom, Snedds, James and Joel working hard in midfield, as Crusaders kept their unbeaten home record intact.

Man of the match sponsored by Wayne Coombes Decorating was Thomas Underhay.
