Uphill Badminton Club Under-16s clinched the league title, despite narrowly losing against Chew Valley.

Uphill Badminton Club B team travelled to high-flying Clevedon Feathers and despite their best efforts came up short.

Robin was on fire most of the night and paired with Emily, they took 18 off Feathers’ first pair. Clevedon then took the next two mixed rubbers in two games, despite a 20-22 reverse in the third mixed by Rob and Becky.

Robin and Billy managed a 18-21 versus Feathers top duo, before the closest rubber of the night saw Robin and Rob storm the first game 25-23, before coming undone in the next two, going down 12-21, 17-21.

The ladies all went the way of Clevedon in two games, with Becky and Harriet coming the closest with a 20-22 in their first game.

This result leaves the B team with two must-win home games remaining to have a chance of maintaining their top flight status.

The C team hosted table-toppers Nailsea & Backwell and lost out seven rubbers to two.

Captain Callum Grayson along with Caroline Higgins took their mixed to three games, before the other two were both lost in two games.

The ladies tried hard with Caroline and Bethan getting a 19 in their first game, but lost all three rubbers to put Nailsea 6-0 up.

Callum led the way again winning both his men’s, firstly with Glyn 21-19 in the decider, before teaming up with Matt Valentine to win comfortably in two games.

The Under-18s travelled to a very damp Chew Valley and the team of Ryan Collins, Tom Miller, Rhys Davies and Lauren Rickwood enjoyed a competitive afternoon’s badminton with little between the two sides.

The singles rubbers were shared two each. Ryan lost in two tight games, before Tom edged the rubber of the afternoon, winning 14-15, 15-13, 15-14. Rhys also won in three, before Lauren went down in two.

The doubles started poorly for Uphill, with Ryan and Tom and Ryan and Rhys losing, while Rhys and Lauren lost a thriller in three games.

Uphill hit back with Tom and Lauren taking the score to 3-5 down. Uphill still had a chance of a draw, but Chew ended strongly, taking both the last two rubbers to run out 7-3 winners.

Thanks go to Billy Fear for his team management on the day.

This sets up Chew for a title shot in their last game and Uphill end with a creditable mid-table finish.

The Under-16 team of Archit Singhal, Aniraj Sapra, Miles Gilbert and Dong Hao took on their Chew Valley counterparts.

Needing three points to take the league title, it was a nervous afternoon for all against a strong Chew line-up. The match got off to a slow start for Uphill, losing the first three singles in two games.

Archit, Ani and Miles all lost out in two games, before Dong got Uphill on the scoresheet.

The doubles were a tense affair with the first four rubbers all being three setters.

Archit and Ani lost before Miles and Dong narrowly won.

The next two rubbers were also shared with Archit and Miles losing, before Uphill hit back with Ani and Dong being successful to peg the match back to 3-5.

Uphill took the penultimate game with Archit and Dong combining well, but Chew nicked the win taking the final match.

This result left Uphill as league champions with 12 points, ahead of Yate with 10 points and Chew Valley with eight.

Congratulations go to the seven players who contributed: Anna Collins, Ben Moore, Jack Rickwood, Archit Singhal, Aniraj Sapra, Dong Hao and Miles Gilbert.
