Wedmore's seniors battled the heat for a modified Bowmaker won by Phil McMahon, Jim Crick and John Sim.

They combined for 84 points to finish two clear of Mike Smith, David Nelson and David Russell, with the third-placed trio of Derek Meades, Dennis Howard and Tony Ireland some way back on 78.

The Ladies cut their betterball competition to nine holes to avoid the risk of overheating as temperatures continued to rise, incorporating a match between the captain and vice-captain with pairs allocated to either team.

Vice-captain Wendy Lucas partnered Karen Barnett to the best score of 24 points to help her team to overall victory, with Jenny Brown and Jane Hewitt second on 23 and Val Webber and Caroline Patterson a point behind them in third.

By the weekend the weather had cooled but the threat of thunder clearly put some players off competing in the Monthly Medal.

The weather was not too bad and neither were the scores, particularly in Division Two as Jonathon Raeside came in with a 64 only to be pipped by Ian Robson on 63, before Steve Plant took first place with a nett 60!

Division One was a very close affair with Jon Thompson beating John Amer on countback after both scored 68 andJames Vowles a shot back in third.

Division Three was a bit thin on the ground but 66 from Steve Alden would win most weeks and put him six ahead of Rob Major who beat Nigel Day on countback.

Very few Ladies risked the weather but Cathy Olive won with a very respectable 74 with Mandy Vearncombe second on 77.
