Wedmore Golf Club held captain's weekend which saw three days of exciting competition from Friday to Saturday.

Events kicked off on Friday evening with a yellow ball bowmaker which saw the winning team of Val Webber, Jane Prosser, Alan Hill and Mark Earwaker score 66 points.

While, runners-up Ann and Russell Dixon with Janet and Ian Robson hit 62.

Saturday saw both men and ladies playing for various Captain's Cup.

Despite a short amount of number in the ladies competition, every competitor had a good time and The Crandon Cup, in the silver division, was awarded to Eunice Bond on 36, three better than Shirley Turner who beat Cathy Olive on countback.

The Dodkin Cup in Bronze division went to Fran McMillan on 39 with Claire Biggs second on 36 and Marion Warren-Smith third on 34.

The Chambers Cup was new this year and went to Janet Gilbert.

There was plenty of competition in the Men’s divisions, particularly Division One for the Dodkin Trophy with three players all on 39.

Richard Ham won out on countback ahead of Tom Gillibrand and Tim Harris. Moly McMillan won the Donald Cup in Division Two on 38, one better than Greg Cox with John Vowles another point back in third.

Best score of the day, 41 points, came from Rob Major in Division Three which put him four ahead of runner-up Neville Gillibrand, with Ian Bunn in third place.

Sunday saw a better ball competition as Fran and Moly McMillan followed up their successes the previous day by winning again with 89 but only on countback from Sally and Phil Cowie with Sue and Alan Chambers in third spot.

Surprisingly, a few golfers actually broke 90 as a gross score but one competitor on Sunday had broken the 90 year age barrier with Fred Linham having celebrated his landmark birthday the previous week out playing again this week.

In fact the only missing person was Captain Dave Skelton, out recovering from surgery, but looking for a quick return.
