Westland Utd 1 Worle 0

THIS was a typical local derby game with both sides scrapping for every ball.

The visitors disrupted Westland’s normal passing game in a first half that produced chances at either end. Both keepers made good saves and the game looked destined for a no score draw.

Westland brought on substitutes Rich Lloyd and soon after Josh Evans and this gave a solid Worle defence of Potter, Osborne and Harvey something else to deal with.

The game was well into added time when a long clearance from Sam Cooper found its way to Corry Thomas who fired past Worle keeper Matt Hill.

This earned Westland all three points and extended their recent run to six games unbeaten.

Saltford 2

Weston St Johns 3

ST JOHNS recorded a deserved Division 1 victory over a determined Saltford side.

Saints started the brighter and controlled the game with midfielders Jack Clark, James Wotton and Mark Adams dominant. The first chance came when a good pass from Adams found Levi Marlow and his powerful strike was tipped over the bar by the keeper.

Saints continued to press forward and Clark sent Ross Stockhall clear, but the keeper made another good save. Saints took the lead when Wotton headed home Nick Jones’s corner.

Stockhall was giving the Saltford defenders problems and another superb pass from Clark sent him clear, but his shot was pushed against the post by the Saltford keeper.

Saints defenders Dean Pierson, Nick Jones, Ash Flavell and Andy Young had a comfortable half with keeper Joe Malik a spectator.

It was a different story in the early stages of the second half. Saints couldn’t get anything together and Saltford were by far the better team. The hosts took the lead when after a defensive mistake. Saints gradually regained control and almost regained the lead when Marlow had a good shot well saved.

Minutes later, a cross from Clark found Juzzy Flavell and he beat the keeper with a neat finish from close-range. Saints seemed to have sealed victory when Marlow beat two defenders before crossing for Stockhall to give the keeper no chance. There was still time for Saltford to score a late consolation goal to make the final score 3-2 to Saints.

Bookers Wholesale man of the match was Jack Clark.
