Weston CC is a great place to be at the moment, claims captain Chris Davidson.

Davidson's side go into their match with Winterbourne at Devonshire Road full of confidence and belief at being able to record back-to-back West of England Premier League victories.

And Davidson expects their match will present another challenge, but nothing they can’t handle.

“Winterbourne are a very good side, particularly their batting. It’ll be a tough game and we’ll need to be better,” he said.

“We can’t wait to play at home, particularly once restrictions ease further and people can get down to support.

“It’s a great place to be at the moment and it’s brilliant to see the whole club back, keen and enjoying their cricket.

“We’re tough to beat at home, though, and on the whole, we’ve played some good cricket over the last four weeks.

“Hopefully a few things will click and we can put in a more complete performance. We have a good squad to choose from and a few selection headaches with some really healthy competition for places.”

Saturday’s match with Winterbourne comes at the right time for Weston as they look to build on a run of four consecutive wins.

Unbeaten through pre-season, Davidson’s side carried on their good form at Ilminster with a 14-run triumph, after recovering from 98-9 to reach 204 all out, then bowl out the hosts for 190.

And Davidson praised the century partnership for the 10th wicket between Tahmid Ahmed and Matt Knight, calling it “special” and “unbelievable.”

“It was a great game of cricket and I’m sure Ilminster will be gutted not to come away with more from the game,” he added.

“We certainly used our 'get out of jail free' card, so to come away from a game where we were far from our best with 19 points should give us confidence.

“It’s a good start for us results-wise but we’re aware we got lucky and we have to be better.

“It’s pleasing to see the players taking accountability for their own games and proactively working on things at training and constructively discussing how we can improve.

“We’re still learning, still on the whole a young side which will continue to get younger.

“Regardless of results, all we can ask for is effort and commitment and they’re showing that in spades and if it continues all season we’ll keep improving.”
