Weston Athletic Club members enjoyed a successful Saturday, with two victories at two events.

THE weekend got off to a fantastic start for Weston Athletic Club with the club’s own action man Guy Bradford taking first place at the 5k Burnham and Highbridge park run in a time of 18.35.

Saturday also saw Matt Wheeler, Andy Chadburn, Tony Hogg, Chris McMillan, Wilf Huxtable and Darren Stacey form a team to take on the Uphill to Wells relay, six legs following a 29-mile route along the West Mendip Way, climbing a total of 3,259 feet.

The team completed the course in a very impressive time of 3.36.00 and secured the second win of the day.

On Sunday, the club’s triathletes travelled south to compete in the Langport Triathlon. The sprint distance event involved a 400m pool swim, a 22.5km bike ride followed by a 5k run.

Phil Tomlinson was the first club member home in a time of 1.07.49, Simon Andrews took second in 1.13.01 and Andy Hayes claimed third and won his age category in 1.13.55.

At the Cotswold Classic 10-mile road race in Witney, Oxfordshire, Steve Kibblewhite and Paul Snelling gained valuable club championship points with times of 1.06.17 and 1.12.26 respectively.

Members preferring to tackle a multi-terrain 10-mile challenge took part in The Doone Run in and around the North Devon villages of Lynton and Lynmouth.

First club member to finish was Josh Harris in 1.27.14, followed by Barry Hall in 1.39.07 and Caroline Holt in 2.02.21.

Following his exploits in the Uphill to Wells relay and hungry for more, Wilf Huxtable went on to compete in the Two Tunnels Railway 10k in Bath on Sunday. Considering the exertion of the previous day, he managed an admirable time of 40.35.

Entries are selling fast for the 28th Christmas Cracker 10k and the all new Mini Cracker 2k for ages seven to 15 years, both on Weston seafront on December 6. Enter now for some fancy-dress festive fun.
