Weston cruise home at Congresbury
Weston opening batsman Simon Green falls just short of his century at Congresbury.
WESTON first team completed their pre-season preparations with a six wicket win at Congresbury.
After losing the toss and being asked to field, a number of Congresbury’s batsmen made starts with none going on to the big score required until Neal Frost hit 54 to propel his team to 208 all out from their 40 overs.
Weston’s bowlers all took wickets at regular intervals, the pick being Shabil Ahmed (2-20), Ben Main (2-30) and Sean Stringer (2-40).
In reply, Weston lost Aussie overseas player Jackson Davey for 18 on his debut, closely followed by Tom Ford for a duck. Remaining steadfast at the other end however was Simon Green who, with the support of Eddy Brown (35) started to take the game beyond Congresbury.

? A 2nd/3rd XI took on Chilton Polden and came away comprehensive victors. After electing to bat, all of the Weston top four of Mark Bissex, Sam Curley, Mitch Smit and Jalal Ahmed made 50s before retiring and with further runs added by Ashley Allen (18), Matt Blamire (14 not out) and Wilf Huxtable (10 not out), Weston racked up a huge 277 from 40 overs.
The best of the Chilton Polden bowlers was Weston player Paul Stringer who was making a guest appearance for the visitors who completed his eight overs for just 31 runs.
In the second innings Stringer again came to the fore with 50 not out, however with support lacking from all other than J Ball (30), Chilton Polden were always up against it and were dismissed for just 119 with wickets falling to Matt Humphrey (3-26), Blamire (3-6), Huxtable (1-26), Alex Penwill (1-21), and Allen (1-11).

? The Eaglets began their first season in the Somerset League with an emphatic win at East Huntspill.
Everything started well with the toss won and East Huntspill duly batting first. Up stepped Andy Tidswell for his first real spell of bowling in a senior league match. When he removed two in his first over, followed by a run out in his second, East Huntspill were in all kinds of trouble at 4-4.
Some steady batting from Harding (72) saw them recover to 138 when the last wicket fell. Tidswell finished with five wickets.
In reply, Weston lost a quick wicket, but Lawrence and Harris took the score to 80 before the second wicket fell. Harris carried his bat for 73 anchoring a well-deserved maximum haul of 35 points.

? An inexperienced Weston Sunday team took on Belvedere and lost by six wickets. After a great start of a 111 between Simon Turner (55) and Jalal Ahmed (59), Weston’s batting collapsed with only Carl Fletcher (26) making double figures as Weston stuttered to 188-8 from their 40 overs.
Large opening stands appeared to be the order of the day as Neil Chadwick (46) and Kevin Crockett (71) put on 120 to put Belvedere firmly in the driving seat. Two quick wickets from Josh Hussey (2-21) gave Weston some hope, but Belvedere comfortably passed their target thanks to Sam Neate’s unbeaten 24.
