WESTON Premier Squash Club’s first team, in partnership with Weston College, beat the 2012 league champions Redland A 15-5 in their first home game of the season.
Redland travelled from Bristol with a strong squad but Weston’s new line-up proved too strong for the visitors.
Weston’s Luke Bishop opened against former Scottish international Frank Ellis. Luke was unable to find his rhythm and went down 0-3. Team captain James Hazzard was next up and, despite a shaky first few points, was far too competitive for his opponent Tim Hayden, defeating him 3-0.
Weston’s new number one, Christian Turner, who travels from Exeter to play premier league, dispatched his opponent Barney Elworthy 3-0. Matt Baker stepped up for Weston next and, despite a great effort against Redlands’ Richard King, lost 2-3 in the final set by two points.
The final game of the evening was Weston’s Rob Watkins who was up against Polish star Konrad Tyma. Rob’s unorthodox style confused and frustrated the youngster, forcing an array of errors resulting in a 3-0 victory for the home side.
