WESTON 18 pts

DRYBROOK 21 pts

A CONVERTED try by the visitors in the seventh minute of time added consigned Weston to their first defeat of the season at the Recreation Ground.

The Seasiders had started well with a brace of penalties for Glenn Dickson which took the New Zealander past 50 points for the season.

Drybrook responded with a try by centre Jamie Cooke, converted by full-back Tom Treherne to give the Gloucestershire club the advantage.

But just before the break, sustained pressure and a penalty line-out resulted in a try by Harry Jones, Dickson converting for 13-7.

The Seasiders took their tally to 18 in the 48th minute with a splendid try by full-back Ross Bennett, but Dickson did not appear in the second half having sustained an arm injury which required hospital treatment.

Weston faded from then on and visiting hooker Luke Fisher was driven over from a line-out, Treherne converting to reduce Weston’s advantage to four points.

The hosts continued to make errors including a lost scrum near Drybrook’s goal-line and after replacement fly-half George Chapman had fired wide with a penalty attempt, the visitors, aided by a string of penalties got themselves onto Weston territory for flanker Joe Tingle to touch down the vital try, Treherne converting.

This was a disappointing performance by Weston, who received two yellow cards during the match.

Their scrimmage went well but the line-out was a hit-and-miss affair and unforced handling errors did not help matters. They also conceded 14 penalties and free kicks.
