Weston Golf Club's Captain's Charity Day proved a great success in aid of the RNLI.

Over 120 players made up 30-plus teams on a fine day for golf, with Hutton's Fiat sponsoring the first and 11th tees with electric cars on display.

And Jack Allen's Bespoke Carpentry team came out on top with 96 points to win a fourball at the Kendleshire.

Second with 89 points were Powell, Broughton, Parker and Merchent, one ahead of Dan Lomax, Mark Philp, Sparks and Mackay.

Jonty Giles, Lanceley, Bartlett and Roberts were fourth on 86, pipping Peter Allen, Jon James, Adam Royle and Alex Larkin on countback, as Andy Balcome, Derek Cook, Warner and Webb took sixth ahead of Steve Corrick, Aussie Denison, Andy Skinner and J Macinnes on 85.

Team Madigan Gill's Williams, Yost, Chaddick and Welling finished eighth with 84 points.

Jon James and Neil Urch won nearest the pin in two on the 10th, while Team Filer's Dave Bell won nearest the pin on the 14th, and Andrew Thomas won a fourball voucher as the only player to make a splash in the paddling pool challenge on the 17th, which raised over £200.

Mike Dyer was in the winner's circle for the second week running at Weston as he took the seniors Jonathan Latham Trophy.

Dyer carded a nett 64 playing off a 15 handicap to pip Ray Harris by one, with Mick Monaghan taking third on countback ahead of Roger Magor, Steve Strange and Trevor Doyle after all carded 68s.

Four other players shot 69s, with Steve Thomas taking seventh on countback ahead of Dave Snowdon, Derek Cook and Steve Roberts.

The seniors visited Isle of Wedmore for a friendly, with Dave Garrett and Ian Roberts never in trouble after losing the first hole and winning one up.

Ed Langford and Robin Webb had to concede 29 shots to one of their opponents and despite being all square after 13 holes lost 3&2.

Captain Paul Chesney and John Dixon handed their opponents a couple of early holes, but got back to all square before losing one down, while Dave Bickell and Steve Cocks were pegged back by the turn and lost three holes out of four in a 3&2 defeat.

Andy Chambers and Paul Burns were one down at the turn and lost 5&3, but Rob Filer and former Wedmore member Keith Jackson were always in control in their 5&4 win as Weston lost 4-2 overall.

A home match against Long Ashton finished all square, as Filer and David Andow saw a two-hole lead slip by the 14th but won one up, before Webb and Dixon lost one down.

Chesney and Jon Codd were four up at the 11th and successive birdies from the skipper sealed a 4&3 win, while Bickell had an eagle two at the ninth as he and Tony Barry won 3&2.

Bill Diamond and John Whitewood lost 4&3, while Terry Waite and John Morgan went down 3&1, before Chris Slocombe and debutant Martyn Filer halved their match.

The scratch team travelled to Oake Manor for a Somerset Knockout semi-final tie and Clive Stilwell rallied from three down after five to beat James Ward, a fixture in the senior county team, on the 17th.

Andy Chambers and Mike Bright battled on for five extra holes before calling a halt, with the overall match decided by then, as Kev Lane found county regular Simon Rudd too strong.

Matt Lazenby lost on the 16th to Mike Shaw, while Ron Kelley lost on the last to Paul Flay as Weston lost 3.5-1.5.
