Fifty-eight Weston Aerobic Gymnastic Club members travelled to Wales to take part in the Cardiff Cup, formerly the Welsh Championships.

Weston Aerobic Gymnastics Club took a total of 58 gymnasts to compete over three levels, regional, national and international, for the Cardiff Cup, formerly the Welsh Championships held at the Welsh Institute of Sport in Cardiff.

The first section to compete were the regional gymnasts, who lived up to expectations and bought home a fine array of medals.

Results - age 7-8 – pairs: Molly and Lola Rose came equal first overall, but their execution score split it to silver. Trio: Millie, Lily Jean, and Grace (silver). Age 9 – pair: Emily and Lyla (gold).

Age 10-11 – trio: Erin, Laila and Keira (gold); Naomi, Lily and Marina (silver).

Individual male: Rhys Harvey (gold); Erin Aggett (silver), Laila Astill (bronze).

Age 12-14 – individual: Amy Jenkins (silver). Trio: Mya, Chloe and Ashliegh (gold). Age 15-17 – individual: Anna Cates (gold); Francesca Cavacuiti (silver). Trio: Fran, Anna and Amy (gold).

The afternoon of the first day saw the national level gymnasts take to the floor and they matched the great results of the morning.

Age 10-11 – individual: George Weall (gold). Age 12-14 – individual: George Richardson (gold); Matt Maynard (bronze). Elleanor Atwell (gold).

Age 15-17 – individual: Lara Hunt (bronze), just pushing teammate Izzy Worrall into fourth. Group: Charlotte, Elleanor, Tors, Jordan, Sophie (gold). Pair: Tors and Lara (silver). Senior – individual: Courtney Hewett (silver). Pair: Courtney and Amy (gold).

The second full day of competition saw the nine-year-old and international gymnasts take to the floor. At this level, the skills are far harder and they are judged by a panel of international judges, the scores and place gained counted towards places on the Great British gymnastics squad of 2017.

The team showed that hard work and commitment have been well worth it, bringing home a multitude of medals and winning each male individual and mixed pair section entered.

Age 9 – individual: Charlie Baker (gold); Jack Harvey (silver). Pairs: Charlie and Jasmine (gold); Jack and Ella (bronze).

Also mention must go to Jasmine Dight, who gained a credible fourth place at the first time of competing.

Age 10-11 – individual: Toby Baker (gold); Lola Lawrence (gold); Nancy Law (silver); Willow Neal (fifth); Seren Jones (sixth). Pair: Lola and Toby (gold).

Age 12-14 – pair: Lewis and Bella (gold); trio: Willow, Xena and Lauren (bronze); group: Molly, Ellie, Gemma, Bella and Tianna (gold); individual: Xena Hewett (fourth).

Age 15-17 – individual: Rhys Williams (gold); pair: Rhys and Keira (gold); trio: Maddy, Isi and Katy (gold). Senior: Beth Kemmish (sixth).

Next up for the hard-working and talented gymnasts are the world championships in Korea. Weston has five gymnasts and three coaches flying out next week to pit their skills against the rest of the world
