Gymnasts’ fine results at Welsh Open Championships

Weston Aerobic Gymnastics Club recorded some excellent results at the Welsh Open Championships held in Cardiff.

Weston Aerobic Gymnastics Club travelled to Cardiff for the Welsh Open Championships with a smaller team than usual due to summer holidays, but the results didn’t falter, with the team winning the majority of categories entered.

The competition started for Weston with the Regional Level pre-foundation individual female category where they claimed two medals - Niamh Austen (gold with 17.500) and Lottie Janes (silver). Niamh was also awarded a trophy for highest score of the regional competition.

At National Level the medals kept coming for Weston, National Development - individual male: Jack Harvey (gold), Devon Howells (silver).

National Development individual female: Delphine Churchill seventh in her first National Level competition. Group 1 trio: Daisy Crompton, Olivia Damerell and Lily Duffy (bronze).

Senior individual female: Isobel Worral (gold with 17.900). Isobel also received the trophy for highest score of the national competition.

The second day saw the start of the competition for the International Level gymnasts.

Foundation individual male: Jacob Dean (gold); female: Lily-Jean Smith (gold), Lola Walby eighth in her first aerobic gymnastics competition showed great potential for the future.

The Welsh closed competition gold also went to Lily-Jean. Group 1 individual female: Lola Lawrence (gold with 19.600), Nancy Law (silver). Welsh closed gold went to Nancy Law. Group 1 individual male: Lewis Harvey (gold).

Group 1 trio: Lola Lawrence, Bella Styles and Molly Brown (gold), ending their trio career in style and undefeated in this country. Katie Ferris, Nancy Law and Seren Jones (silver).

The competition ended with awards for Lola Lawrence for highest score of the entire competition and Nancy Law, Molly Brown and Seren Jones for outstanding achievements, recognising their success as Welsh gymnasts at World Age Group Championships earlier in the year.
