Weston Under-14s recovered from a half-time deficit to scored 47 unanswered points in the second half.

WESTON Under-14s came from behind to win against North Petherton after the visitors scored three first-half tries.

Petherton scored first, but the hosts hit back with a try from Lewis Patterson after good work by Jack Saunders, Andy Turner and Euan Braidwood. After a series of penalties against Weston, Petherton scored another two tries.

Replacements Harry Strutt, Joe Connolly and Jack Press were brought on at the start of the second half and this had an immediate effect with Strutt scoring from a Paterson pass, who made the conversion.

Again from the kick-off, Strutt fielded the ball and ran the length of the pitch to score under the posts. Another good run, this time from Toby Maleham, set up Weston’s next try scored by Patterson, who also added the extras.

The home side added four more tries, scored by George Morton Boole, Maleham and Patterson (2), who also kicked three conversions.

Forty-seven second half unanswered points was the reward for a more disciplined and focused display.

Man of the match went to Andy Turner.

The Under-7s started their season with games against Minehead and North Petherton.

Edward Hodge settled into the game quickly, splitting the defences of both teams and adding four tries. Frankie Moore and Harrison Lees assisted each other in scoring tries, while Tristan Kitson showed his speed to add to the scoreline.

Weston were impressive in their passing skills and communication and their well-disciplined game proved too strong for the opponents.

A fog-bound North Petherton played host to the Under-11s for their first game of the season.

The hosts proved to be the stronger of the two teams with a 6-0 final score. Despite the end result, Weston showed great character throughout the match with superb kicks from Louis and strong tackles from Ryan, Jacob, Luke and Brett.

The hosts’ defence proved too much for the travelling team, cutting short decent runs from Bayley, Ben, Luca and Thomas.

The subsequent game against Gordano was a well fought match ending 4-1, with Keiron scoring Weston’s only try. Brett, Cameron and Ethan (in his first game) provided some excellent support throughout both games. Man of the match was Phil Cornish.

With seven players making their debuts against a strong North Petherton side, the Under-13s did well to go in level at the break.

Bradley Carter moved up to hooker to replace the injured Ciaran Kelman, while debutants Michael Hayes started at blindside flanker, Brandon Davies and Brad Brayne formed a new second row.

Daniel Hall started in the threequarters and Jackson Webb on the wing. Waiting on the touchline were Ashley Shepherd and Hayden Cox.

North Petherton scored first in the corner, before Michael Hayes’ charge broke several tackles before being stopped. Weston resisted and forced their way up the pitch and Alfie scrambled over the line.

Changes saw Hayden Cox and Ash Shepherd entered the fray and both were immediately in action as Weston held their own for the remainder of the half, with Jamie Meaden playing well in the scrum.

After the break, North Petherton turned the game in their favour, despite good defence from Isaac Bliss, Hayden Main, Alfie Calcutt, Jackson Webb, Tom Burge, Matthew James and Michael Hayes.

Player of the match was debutant Michael Hayes.
