Weston Ladies manager Sarah Adams feels her side have shown “great progression” in their fitness ahead of Sunday’s game with Almondsbury Women.

The Seagulls welcome South West Regional Northern Division second place side to the Optima Stadium 3G for their second successive home game of 2022.

“We are really looking forward to that one, we missed out playing them before Christmas because their pitch was waterlogged,” Adams said.

“They are a bit of the unknown still. We get to play them twice now. They have had some great results and hopefully we can cause trouble and hopefully put goals past them.”

Weston opened 2022 by hosting Bristol Rovers Women last Sunday.

Rovers led 5-0 at half-time before scoring three more goals to finish the encounter 8-0 winners.

Four-goals apiece by Laura Curnock and Zoe Fielden-Stewart ensured the Gas Girls headed down the M4 with their 11th win from 12 games this season.

However, Adams said she was left delighted with her sides performance against the unbeaten leaders and saw signs of improvement.

“I’m really pleased, particularly in terms of fitness,” she said.

“It’s something we have struggled a little bit with in the first part of the season. We have recruited players, some of the players come quite late to us nearer to the start of the season and missed pre-season.

“That all important bit where we look at fitness. We can see that in some of the goals we have conceded towards the end of games.

“The fact that we have not conceded the end of this game and the way that they play football definitely tested our fitness so that shows great progression for us in that area.”

Around 50 supporters were in attendance for their game with Rovers and Adams was left encouraged by fans coming down to watch.

And she has called on more people to be there against Almonsbury.

“It always give us a bit of boost when we know that there’s people behind us wanting us to do well,” Adams said.

“The more people we can get down here at The Optima the better.”
