Weston Ladies reached the quarter-finals of the Somerset Cup after a 6-1 victory over Taunton Civil Service.

Weston Ladies came out fighting against Taunton Civil Service in the first round of the Somerset Cup.

A strong line up and a first team debut for Lily Jeffrey made for a promising start.

Weston took the lead through a deflected short from Becky Childs. Taunton CS withheld waves of continued attacks from the midfield of Jeffrey, Katie Elliott, Claire Westgate and Desni Darch.

After several unsuccessful shots on goal, Lucy Clarke converted to take her tally to three goals in just two games.

After a quick turn around at half-time, Weston settled put together a fantastic period of team play, which ended in a top corner finish from Taylor Kingscott.

Solid and consistent defending from the Milton Larder player of the match Kerry Westgate and a slick transfer from the rest of the defence: Orla Crabb, Charlotte Howson, Charlotte Gordon, Hayley Mawford.

Abi Smith created some room on the left wing for Darch who beat numerous players to play Lucy Clarke in behind for her to set Childs up for her second goal.

The next goal came from a text book short corner routine was finished by Elliott. Some outstanding goalkeeping and a great solo run from a young Taunton Civil Service player saw them bring the score to 5-1.

Determined not to let Taunton CS have the last word, Claire Westgate stepped up to the top of D to fire in the sixth goal for Weston in the last play of the game.

Weston are now through to the quarter-finals of the Somerset Cup to be played on the December 11.

Taw Valley 2nd XI 1

A young second team sponsored by the Milton Larder and including three debutants and last minute player Abi Smith hosted Taw Valley experienced side came out 2-1 winners.

Weston began the game with high energy and forced a short corner, allowing Sophie Jones to hit the backboard.

Taw Valley responded well, with several shots on goal saved by player of the match Sammi Brown, though a small mistake from a hit out resulted in Taw Valley equalising.

Weston entered the second half with determination after an inspiring team talk at half-time lead by Jade Brown and Sam Neate.

Great movement through the middle and on the wings created several chances, yet Taw Valley were quick on the counter attack and forced several corners which were dealt with by a strong defence consisting of Shelly Perkins, Abi Smith, Tori Leeks and young debutant Chloe - not to mention great sweeping by Summer Davis.

After several saves from Brown, including an athletic leap to tip one over the top, Weston broke through again. Excellent movement by Meg Elliot, Ella Howe and debutant Grace through the centre soon gave Weston chances in the D.

Winning a short corner, captain Jade Brown struck the ball with great power into the backboard to give Weston the win.
