Amy Clark scored a hat-trick as Weston Mendip Ladies finally got their first long awaited win of the season against local rivals Weston Ladies FC on Sunday.

The local derby at St John’s Park and was watched by over 100 spectators for the South West Regional Women's Football League Northern Division encounter.

Weston were the first to strike when ex-Mendip player Katie Sharkey scored with a long range effort.

Mendip rallied, however, and equalised when Clark slotted home from close range.

When the referee awarded a penalty for a handball, Clark converted to put the hosts in front for the first time.

Clark completed her hat-trick when a clever through ball from the industrious Amelie Ford found the PD&CL Building services Girl of the Game who ran onto the pass and smashed past the stranded goalkeeper.

Weston pulled a goal back through Tash Crew after the visitors hit the advanced Mendip defence with a counter attack.

Erin Duffy finished the scoring for the first half with a superbly struck free-kick a yard in from the touchline.

Weston again scored first just after the interval through Summer Lily Robinson’s first ever goal for the Seagulls.

With only one goal in it both teams battled hard and Mendip had good chances to increase the lead with Laura McCarthy and Kelly Jones going close.

On 61 minutes Jones provided the cross for Mendip’s fifth goal, with Josie Cherson producing a cool finish to stretch the hosts lead.

A long kick from stand-in keeper Abigail Mills found Lilly Stephens whose instant control allowed her to strike the ball over the keeper and into an empty net to end a run of 13 games without a win.

The result helps Mendip creep away from the relegation zone with a trip to Cheltenham Town Ladies Development this Sunday, while Weston visit Almonsbury Women. Both matches kick-off at 2pm.
