WESTON were given a stern test by Westbury, but emerged 4-2 winners to retain their top of the table spot.

The game started well for Weston, with one chance being disallowed for not crossing the line, but it was a Westbury forward who scored first, putting the home team on the back foot.

Weston began to fight back and a short corner was awarded, which the Westbury keeper made the first initial block, but this fell to Weston winger Heal, who netted to make it all square.

Weston further piled on the pressure and another short corner was awarded. The ball was pushed out by Beer, which was stopped and then slapped towards the goal by Sully to give Weston the lead.

Westbury were determined not to give up and after a string of passes, the ball made its way into the home team’s D and after a clash of sticks, it was the Westbury striker who found the backboard for the equaliser.

After the break, Sam Neate dribbled quickly around the defending side and passed to Heal, who was waiting at the top of the D. He skilfully stuck the ball on the reverse side for a fine goal.

A final goal chance began from centre midfield player Watkins, running the full length of the pitch and unselfishly passing the ball to striker Neate to slot underneath the Westbury keeper.

Man of the match was awarded to Watkins for his excellent work rate throughout the game, creating many opportunities in the D.
