WESTON 2 had their tightest match of the season on Saturday when they took on Bath 1.

WA Bonnie Beechgood and centre Rachel Mason worked hard to get the ball into shooters Mel Chilman and Jara Lapham, who were in good form. Bath brought the ball nicely down the court, but the tight defence of Becky Lewington, Laura Stainer and Hellen Gilmore made it difficult.

The two teams were evenly matched and Bath were just one up after the first quarter, but with Weston to start off quarter two.

Maddie Wright came on as WA in quarter two and quickly made an impressive interception for a turn over ball. Weston went ahead by a couple, but Bath were right on their tails and soon turned the game back in their favour. By the end of the quarter, Bath were two ahead, but the game was still too close to call.

In quarter three, the game continued neck and neck, with both teams working hard for every goal, and going into the final quarter the scores were tied.

It was in the final quarter where Weston’s stamina showed, and the girls kept pushing to the end, with Chilman and Lapham brilliant under pressure. The final score was 40-37 to Weston with Maddie Wright winning player of the match.
