Weston gave a poor performance against Bristol & West and were well beaten by their hosts.

Bristol & West 7

Weston 1

Weston travelled to Bristol and West and handed Kirk Mobsby his first team debut and Curt Watkins welcomed back into the fold.

The game started poorly for Weston finding themselves under pressure within the first two minutes, resulting in numerous consecutive short corners, one of which was despatched past Weston captain Jordan Canter.

Weston had their chances with Rich Heal and Adam Childs failing to convert.

The Weston defence of Beer, CJ Neate, Ninnis and Etchells were finding themselves under huge amounts of pressure and this told as Weston went into the break 3-0 down.

After honest words at half-time, Weston came out and attacked from the off. Good play by Dale, Watkins and Sully freed Bryant, whose shot was deflected over the keeper to pull a goal back for the visitors.

Momentum was with Weston and it looked like the second goal was coming, but another Weston mistake gifted Platts an easy goal and the ascendency was again with Bristol.

Beer was unfortunate to be a victim of a green card and added to Weston’s frustration.

Bristol scored three more unanswered goals and this brought an end to a torrid afternoon for the visitors. The Curry Garden man of the match was Jordan Canter.

Weston A 4

Firebrands D 6

Weston A started their first home game of the season looking to get back to winning ways, but bad decision making in front of goal and a lack of concentration at the back cost them for the second week running.

Firebrands, fielded an experienced side and picked out their pacy forwards in the channels regularly, who caused problems for the back two of Neil Cunningham and James Leeks.

Roy Beer was a constant threat at the top of the attack and Cameron Slater and Alex Thorne aided him well on the wings.

The game changed dynamics constantly with Firebrands taking the lead through a penalty corner, only for Weston to equalise minutes later with Beer putting away his third goal of the season.

An Alex Thorne shot was stopped on the line by a Firebrands foot, but the forward could not convert the resulting penalty stroke. Firebrands next attack saw them win their own penalty stroke which they despatched past Weston keeper Oliver Westcott.

A quick break in the second half saw Brands go 3-1 up against the run of play, but Weston pressure brought them back into the game. A second goal from Beer and a great finish from Curry Garden player of the match, Slater, brought the home team level.

Rob Mount and Ian Lucas worked hard to contain the constant running of the Firebrands forwards, but they again took the lead from another penalty corner.

Captain Stuart Westcott broke into the D to equalise again, but with four minutes to go he made a decision that was to give the game to the opposition. In a tactical play, he substituted his keeper and brought on an extra outfield player. As Weston pressed looking for the win, two quick counter attacks were easily dispatched past the unlucky Mobsby at the back.
