The early stages of this match set the tone for the Seagulls as they were behind after just two minutes.

Sean Rigg fired a shot into the back of the net from close range after the Seagulls’ defence went to sleep.

Ollie Barnes then proceeded to foul Sean Rigg in the area and the referee had no choice but to point to the spot after 11 minutes.

Jack Compton and Mark Randall hovered over the spot-kick but it was Randall who doubled the Port’s advantage with a perfectly placed penalty into the top corner.

But Weston did have their chances. They were awarded a dangerous free kick just outside the area in the first half.

Dayle Grubb’s set-piece had power but lacked accuracy and sailed over the bar.

The Seagulls were creating some positive attacks, with Eliot Richards and Jake Mawford creating space. But Newport were standing firm and looked dangerous on the break.

The match then sprung into life six minutes before the break.

Jennison Myrie-Williams’ fantastic volley was swiftly followed by a Jon Parkin strike and the goal frenzy continued as Mark Randall scored an absolute screamer from the halfway line to make it 5-0 at the break.

The second half started much as the first ended and Newport added a sixth to their tally early on.

Jas Labadre’s towering header was always destined for the back of the net.

But it was then Weston’s turn to score a fantastic goal. Jake Mawford ran through the Newport defence and finished superbly.

With two minutes to go Newport made it seven. Substitute Marlon Jackson fired home from just inside the area. He then added an eighth in added time.
