WESTON’S first independent women’s football team is set to be launched from next season.
The senior team of Mendip Girls Football Club is holding trials next month, and will be helped by Jack Edgar, who has previously coached Bristol City’s ladies team.
The team, whose players will be aged 16 and older, is the only ladies team in the region not affiliated with a men’s or boys club, and will play in the Somerset County Women’s League.
Vice-chairman James Lucas said; “We’re very excited, a lot of girls and women ask if we have a team they can train and play in, and now we do.”
The trials will be held at Hutton Moor Leisure Centre on May 1 at 11.30am.
