Weston racing driver Will Burns secured a hat-trick of podium finishes at Knockhill in Scotland.

MULTIPLE Ginetta GT4 Supercup race winner Will Burns superbly completed a hat-trick of podiums at the latest championship rounds at Knockhill in Scotland.

Having performed well in both wet and dry conditions in pre-weekend testing, the Weston racer began on the front row of the grid alongside the championship leader.

Following an excellent getaway in the opening race, Will was already aware that with two further skirmishes on the same set of four tyres throughout the weekend in Scotland, preservation was hugely important.

With the leader pulling away and the chasing pack unable to keep up with Will, a second place finish was a certainty, taking the chequered flag and his first podium of the weekend, with ease.

It was a case of deja vu in race two, as Burns again begun from the front row of the grid and pulled out a significant advantage from the rest of the field of over five seconds. But on this occasion, Will was able to close in and challenge the leader with the pair ending the 24-lap affair separated by only a second.

Sunday’s final race, broadcast live on ITV4, was the reversed grid encounter, with Burns starting on the third row of the grid, from fifth place.

With cars tangling ahead in the second half of the race, Will was in the right place to take advantage and bag a successful haul of points, taking the final spot on the podium.

He said: “On such a short circuit like Knockhill, qualifying and starting position is really key. My personal best time of 51.599 was three-thousands of a second quicker than my nearest team-mate. That’s a huge confidence boost.

“A big thank you to HHC Motorsport for handing me a car that I can work well with. I feel that I can continue this momentum and form going into the latter part of the season. My next target will be to take that next step up on the podium and score some more wins in the final few races of the season.”

The next round of the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup will take place at Rockingham in Northamptonshire this weekend. It will receive live television coverage on ITV4, on September 6.
