Weston Squash Club’s first team made a winning start in the opening match of the season against BTLSC Tigers.

WESTON Squash Club’s first team, in partnership with Weston College, travelled to Redland in Bristol to take on BTLSC Tigers in the opening match of the season.

They produced a strong overall performance to secure an early place as the league leaders.

The opening match saw James Hazzard take on Sam Barham and defeat his opponent in a hard fought 3-2 victory. Hazzard took an early 2-0 lead winning relatively comfortably.

However, Barham responded well in the third and fourth games, levelling the match 2-2. Switching back on early in the fifth set saw Hazzard took an early lead to secure a 3-2 victory.

Weston’s Luke Bishop faced Dave Allman, an opponent he has not previously beaten. Bishop showed true form and produced some outstanding squash to claim a 3-2 victory.

Rob Watkins took on Roger Camp, a player that has tested Rob on many occasions. However, on the night, Rob proved too much and defeated his opponent 3-0.

Weston’s Matt Baker, who stated that one of his New Years resolutions was to run, proved this tactic was a success and worked hard to earn an impressive 3-2 victory over John Welton.

The final game of the evening saw Weston’s Christian Turner take on Oli Morrell. On this occasion, Morrell imposed continual pressure on Turner, preventing him from finding his rhythm resulting in a 0-3 defeat.
