Juniors at Woodland Tennis Club have enjoyed a busy and successful season so far.

THE summer tennis season has started off successfully for the juniors at Woodland Lawn Tennis Club.

Their 14 and under team came top of their division in the West Somerset Tennis League and Saturday morning coaching sessions continue to be popular with, on average, 50 juniors turning out each week.

Two juniors in particular have decided to take their tennis a stage further. Oliver Fuller and Stephie Buckingham have entered the Torbay open, competing in the singles tournaments and teaming up to play in the mixed doubles.

Oliver has been to Torbay before and can’t wait to immerse himself in tennis, entering four different sections. He said: “I’m really looking forward to the competition and the chance to play some great tennis.”

After Torquay, Stephie is off on her tennis travels again, this time to the renowned All England Club in Wimbledon. Woodland entered the LTA’s Road to Wimbledon tournament and after successes at club and county level, Stephie is representing Avon in the national finals.

She said: “I can’t believe that I’m going to play at Wimbledon. I’ve never played on grass before so that’s a challenge in itself. but I can’t wait.”
