THIS year’s opening game in the Weston Mixed League saw Woodspring lose 52-59 to last year’s champions St Andrews.
The two home rinks won, with rink one skipped by Gordon Russell, pulling back to win after being 4-15 down at 10 ends. Rink two skipped by Derek Hurst, won by five shots
An away rink, skipped by Chris Hedges, narrowly missed victory by one shot in a tight game. The other away rink went down by 12 shots.
Home rinks: A Fews, R Bryant, P Gaulton, G Russell 17-16; I Miles, N Urch, D Bleasedale, D Hurst 15-10.
Away rinks: G Fews, G Samson, E Hopkins, C Hedges 13-14; J Samson, S Hopkins, S Hedges, M Brummell 7-19.
