Worle Rangers returned to winning ways with a comfortable victory over Winscombe Reserves.

Worle Rangers 4

Winscombe Res 1

Worle Rangers went into the game determined to turn their league form around, and started the better of the two sides.

The first clear chance came on 15 minutes when Andy Young and Joey Dale created an opening for Dale, whose shot went just wide. Great high pressure from Rangers caused a Winscombe defensive error, and after a one-two with James Nutt, Rich Dubery’s shot hit the post.

Rangers got their breakthrough just after the half-hour, when Jack Morgan linked up with Jake Groves, only to be brought down in the penalty area, with Young converting the spot kick.

Just before the break, the lead was doubled when Young’s diagonal pass found Groves, who crossed for Nutt to slot home from close range.

It was the visitors who started the second half on the front foot, putting Rangers under pressure and after a fine save from Kev Hockey, they reacted first to pull a goal back.

Rangers picked themselves up and following some great play from Hannam and Brinson, regained their two-goal lead after Brinson’s through ball found Nutt, who finished superbly for his second goal.

The visitors pushed to get back into the game, but were met by a well-organised back four of Wilson, Coleman, Dubery and Morgan and Hockey in goal. Worle put the game out of sight when Liddiard and Dubery combined well to set up Brinson.

Special mentions to the hard-working Andy Wilson, Jake Groves who had a great first team debut and captain Jake Hannam who was solid throughout. The Curry Garden man of the match was James Nutt.

Westend Res 4

Worle Rangers Res 4

(Worle Rangers won 5-4 on pens)

Worle started off with intent and motivated to get through to the next round and took an early lead with goal from AJ Lester and Bobby Dugmore.

Westend levelled before half-time due to two converted penalties.

The second half started the same way as the first with Worle scoring two further goals through Lester and Dugmore. But deja vu hit again with Westend scoring two further goals to finish 4-4 at full time.

The score remained level for extra time so the game headed to penalties with Worle Rangers winning 5-4 with penalty kicks converted by Lester, Liam Neate, Charlie Dugmore, Bobby Dugmore and Nick Carter.

For saving two penalties in the shoot-out, the Curry Garden man of the match went to goalkeeper Mason Brown.

KVFC 0

Wrington Redhill Res 1

Playing only their second game since October, Wrington Res pulled out a disciplined performance to knock league high-fliers Kenn Valley out of the Charity Cup.

Wrington started well with Michak O’Connor and Dan McMullen causing a nuisance up top, with Callum Briggs and evergreen Mike Clements in good support.

KVFC rarely threatened the Wrington defence, organised superbly by Chris Holland. Other than a couple of regulation saves from range, keeper Jacob Burnett was relatively untroubled thanks to Nick Curtis and Dan Burnett’s reading of the game.

At the other end, the home goalkeeper was in inspired form to push Faulkner’s effort around the post, and only a last ditch tackle prevented O’Connor from scoring.

After the break, O’Connor missed a glorious chance after good work from Faulkner, and Moore curling a free-kick against the frame of the goal.

Finally, O’Connor got the goal he deserved following Hubbard’s smart turn inside the box, firing home from close.

Briggs was replaced by Matt Lenny, with the latter offering an injection of energy and a calm head as KVFC pushed on in search of an equaliser.

Wrington wasted a golden opportunity to make the game safe when they missed a penalty and missed it again when it was re-taken.

Winscombe A 4

Worle Res 0

Worle only have themselves to blame for not making a game of this promotion six-pointer.

The first lapse occurred in the 10th minute when leading scorer Foncette was clumsily brought down in the box, the Trinidad man got up and smashed the resulting penalty home.

Worle centre-half Brian Dead then had a moment of madness picking up two yellow cards in 10 minutes to receive his matching orders. Winscombe piled on the pressure and Abu-Gorman doubled the lead with an explosive finish just before half-time. Worle were almost let back into the game early in the second half after a careless shove from Milton saw the away side awarded a penalty. Their afternoon was summed up however when the frontman blazed his penalty over the bar.

Free-scoring midfielder Andre Ware was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet before Michael and Norris completed the 4-0 victory.

Clough’s Lazi I man of the match went to Jack Rogers.
